Women Rock Construction

Meet Kelly

Women Rockthorn Construction

Did you know that more than 45% of women in construction have never worked with female construction managers. Women should be able to forge a career in construction, whether that means working on a building site or filling all manner of other roles, from site manager to civil engineer, architect to cost consultant—just as men do.

But as with other sectors, in many instances women have more hills to climb and hurdles to overcome to achieve the recognition they deserve. We spoke to Kelly about her role in construction, the best part of her job, what makes her proud about working in construction and advice she would give to young women entering the industry.

What is your Job Role?

Owner, Boss B*tch, Dogs Body.

How long have you been in the industry

12 years

What advice would you give to a young woman entering the industry?

Seize every opportunity that comes your way, don’t let your gender define you or what box you should fit in.

What’s the best part of your job?

No two days are the same! You can be a part of something, whether that is helping someone with their career, supporting a client on their project and seeing a field being developed into something like a housing community, a school, etc

What makes you proud of working in the construction industry?

It’s not the expected, I know people assume that I wouldn’t be in the construction industry when they meet me, you can certainly make some waves.

What is your favourite tool or machine

As we all know – I think diggers are sexy, especially Kobelco – the blue/teal ones!
